March 28, 2008 5:57 a.m. EST Windsor Genova - AHN News Writer Fort Lauderdale, FL (AHN) - Florida's Coast Guard recovered 3,200 pounds of baled cocaine dumped in Caribbean waters by fleeing drug smugglers on speedboat. The 50 bales of cocaine valued at $100 million had been offloaded at Port Everglades, but the suspected smugglers eluded capture. Coast Guards conducting aerial patrol in the western Caribbean spotted a suspicious boat on March 18. The vessel suddenly fled at high speed prompting a Coast Guard cutter and helicopter dispatched from Jacksonville to give chase. The bales of cocaine were thrown overboard while the speedboat continued running despite warning shots from the chasing Coast Guards.
