Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Goodbye Chikezie. The soulful, enthusiastic singer was voted off "American Idol" Wednesday night in a shocking surprise that also had heart throb Jason Castro in the bottom three. Chikezie and Castro were joined in the bottom three by Syesha Mercado. But in the end it was Chikezie who sang the last song, while his mom sang along from the audience displaying that "I'm so proud of you son" the viewers have grown to love over the past few weeks.

Perhaps it was the ballad "If Only for One Night" that Chikezie sang Tuesday night that sent him packing, or perhaps it is as Judge Paula Abdul said "someone has to go home every week."

Castro, who has grown in popularity over the past few weeks took a stumble and ended up nearly leaving. Kristy Lee Cook, on the other hand, sailed through into the safe seats even when viewers were predicting weeks ago she would be gone. Next week Kristy Lee may sail through again since Dolly Parton is the mentor and Kristy Lee shines at the country songs.

Next week "American Idol" will vote off another contestant in the search for America's next singing Idol.
