Washington (AHN) - Delta Air Lines is the latest carrier to announce possible flight cancellation on Thursday to allow engineers conduct safety inspection to two types of aircrafts in its fleet. The announcement came as American Airlines already canceled flights.

Delta spokeswoman Chris Kelly said the company has already canceled several flights Wednesday, but did not disclose details. On Thursday, the company is set to announce more flights cancellation.

Also on Wednesday American Airlines canceled some 200 flights, reducing its service by at least 10 percent. American Airline checked the wiring of its MD-80 fleet.

Kelly said the carrier's engineers would inspect the wiring of the of 117 MD-88 and 16 MD-90 aircraft. She said the safety inspection was voluntary and is expected to be completed over the weekend.

With the flights cancellation, hundreds of affected passengers blame Delta for missed job interviews, connecting flights and delays in going home.

However, Kelly said Delta has rebooked the flights of the affected passengers and paid for their hotel and food.

Delta and American airlines decided to inspect their aircrafts after the Federal Aviation Agency or FAA and U.S. safety officials, raised questions about how a certain bundle of wires is secured to the MD-8- aircraft.

For its part, American Airline spokesman Tim Wagner said the inspection required several hours to complete that is why they decided to cancel some flights. However, he said the company did not ground any aircraft.
