American Airlines Cancels 300 Flights To Reinspect Planes, Delta To Follow Suit

Forth Worth, TX (AHN) - American Airlines canceled about 300 flights Wednesday and Delta Airlines will follow suit as the two carriers started reinspecting hundreds of their planes on the heels of a call by the Federal Aviation Administration for airlines to audit aircraft maintenance records.

American Airlines and FAA inspectors checked the wiring of its MD-80 aircrafts and found 80 planes in need of modification. The airline will bring back the planes to service after getting clearance from authorities.

A total 300 MD-80 planes of American Airlines are covered by the reinspection, which the FAA required on some 100 airlines in the country.

Delta will reinspect the wiring of 113 aircrafts, 117 MD-88s and 16 MD-90s. The company said it will call customers and offer them rebooking until the reinspection and required modification are completed, according to ABC News.
